General Secretariat convenes Economic and Social Council's 117th session
The Economic and Social Council held its 117th regular session at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States on 5 February 2026, with the participation of Arab ministers. The session addressed key economic, social, and development issues and adopted the agenda and related resolutions.
The Economic and Social Council, at its 117th ordinary session, will hold its ministerial meeting at the headquarters of the General Secretariat on 5 February, under the chairmanship of His Excellency Dr Kamal Reziq, Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria (Chair of the current session of the Council).
He assumed the presidency from His Excellency Mr Samir Eid, Minister of Trade and Export Development of the Republic of Tunisia (Chair of the previous session of the Council), in accordance with the alphabetical order of the Member States and as stipulated in the Council's internal rules and regulations.
The meeting will be convened in the presence of His Excellency the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and with the participation of Their Excellencies the Arab ministers concerned with the work of the Economic and Social Council.
The Council's preparatory meetings at the level of experts and senior officials were held from 2 to 4 Februar.
During this session, a number of important economic, social, and development issues have been discussed, and the Council will adopt the draft agenda and approve the relevant resolutions.
