The Council of the League of Arab States at the Ministerial Level convened on Sunday, March 29, 2026, via videoconference at the outset of its 165th Ordinary Session, under the chairmanship of His Excellency Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, with the participation of Their Highnesses, Excellencies the Ministers and the Secretary-General.

Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, expressed his sincere condolences to the State of Qatar—its leadership, government, and people—over the victims of the crash of a Qatari helicopter in Qatar’s territorial waters, which occurred due to a technical malfunction while it was performing its duty.

Mr Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, strongly condemned the successive Israeli air strikes targeting civilian objects and assets belonging to the Lebanese state, including bridges destroyed by Israeli occupation forces, as well as the repeated raids on residential areas in Beirut, which pose grave risks to civilians.

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit reiterated his condemnation, in the strongest terms, of the flagrant Iranian attack that targeted the strategic Port of Salalah in the Sultanate of Oman using drones, resulting in damage to a number of fuel storage tanks at the port.

The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, represented by the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector, expresses its profound concern over the continued measures taken by the Israeli occupation authorities to close Al-Aqsa Mosque and Al-Haram Al-Sharif to Muslim worshippers, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. Such actions constitute an infringement on freedom of worship and a violation of the historical and legal status quo governing the holy sites in the city of Jerusalem.

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, held a telephone conversation with Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, during which he congratulated him on the important role played by Bahrain, the Arab member of the Security Council, in mobilising support for the draft resolution condemning the Iranian attacks on the Gulf states and Jordan.

Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit received on 10 March Christophe Bernasconi, Secretary-General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH), during his official visit to the headquarters of the League of Arab States to sign a memorandum of understanding between the two organisations.

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received a phone call on 8 March from Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. During the call, she conveyed a message addressed to the Council of the League of Arab States, which convened on the same day at the ministerial level in an extraordinary session via videoconference to discuss the Iranian attacks on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of a number of Arab states.

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, reiterated his condemnation, in the strongest terms, the dangerous Iranian escalation against civilian targets and vital facilities in the Gulf region, stressing that this reckless and unjustified escalation represents a grave miscalculation that Iran must immediately reconsider.
